Construction Double Page Spread 4...

I am much happier with this layout as I think it is more appropriate and interesting. I also changed the colour scheme to Black, White and Pink as I think that these colours compliment each other well and link in with a teenage, punk star sort of image which links in with rebellion which is the sort of message I want to get across about the artist. Next I need to advertise the artists latest singles and album which I will put on the right hand side of the second page...

Some creative and inventive ideas but make sure the reader can follow really easily- perhaps add captions to pictures etc for clarity.

Construction of Double Page Spread 3...

I have yet again changed the layout to try a new one. I am slightly happier with this one, however do not like the colour scheme. I wanted the colours to match the colours in the photo however I do not like the colours in the photo becasue there is not an overpowering one. I used a peachy colour which I do not think makes the artist look particularly exciting. I will change the colour scheme becasue I see Peach as quite a neutral colour and not bold enough for an exciting brand new star. I'm also unsure about the layout at the moment. I think I will but text on both pages rather than just one like I have done here. I also do not like the background for the article as lined paper. I wanted to give a rough, scrapbook look but I don't think that it will be very effective so I will not use this background...

Front Cover and Contents Page...

Mrs D

This is coming together really nicely. I really like your front cover and contents. Make sure that you have clear links with font and colour across all your pages. Print a copy of your front cover and check that the text doesn't 'bleed' off the page.

Construction of Double Page Spread 2...

I am unhappy with this layout. I feel that the picture is not correct for the article. It makes the artist seem miserable and uninspiring which is not what I want to get across considering they are supposed to be a bright new star. The layout also makes the article look boring and nothing special which would not attract the consumers attention. I also think that the white background makes the spaces not filled look larger and swallows up the rest of the page which makes it look blank and not filled with an interesting article. I do not like the flat looking title either. I need to add a shadow and get rid of the black outline becasue it makes it look boring and very 2D which will not make it stand out.

Final Draft of Contents Page...

I am very pleased with my final contents page. Considering I was slightly apprehensive about whether or not the layout would work or not. I was also worried that the crumpled paper background would make the text hard to read for the consumer and therefore be inappropraite for the background, however I think it has worked well and makes the page look more rebellious and scruffy which is the look that I intended for my magazine. I think the colours work well, however I think I will change the pink to a more orangey red so that it matches the front cover and therefore keeps a house style throughout the magazine. I think that the pink, black and white compliment each other and stand out from one another while having the ability to match each other also. I originally thought that I would use only a few different fonts so that it was clear for the reader. However I wanted each page to have it's own style so I tried different fonts for different pages and made the more exciting pages stand out by giving the page title an interesting font and making it bigger or a different colour scheme and shadow effect. I also used a few pugs such as rectangles and swirls and arrows to make the contents page look more interesting as they are different shapes and attract the attention of the consumer. I made my featured aritist be the most advertised. I did this by placing a large picture of them at the top of the magazine and then making the artists name big and matching the font used for the Cover and Double Page Spread to advertise them. The other pictures I used were of a stage and another artist. I left the stage in colour rather than greyscale liek the other two as I wanted to attract attention and the actual picture contains a lot of grey, black and white anyway so it does not look completely out of place compared to the others. I made the other picture of a different artist greyscale as when it was in colour it did not match the colour scheme and made it look messy and unformal. So I made it greyscale which matches the rest fo the page and fits in with the grungy look that I have been aiming for.

Construction of Contents Page 7...

I have now conpleted all of the text needed for the contents page and have tried to make each page stand out by using different fonts and variations of black white and pink. I have also used shadowing effects which just highlight the text to make it stand out more to the consumer. I also made sure that all of the tex is clear and easy to read, whilst it is still quite fussy at the same time. Next I need to add my article pictures...

Construction of Contents Page 6...

Here I have added more information and text to the contents page, I need to continue adding text and need to insert the 2 pictures I am using to advertise the other pages in my magazine. I think overall my contents page is coming along quite well and the colour scheme is constant and works well with the style of music that my magazine is based around which is Indie Rock.

Construction of Contents Page 5...

Here I have started adding text for the contents page and will continue doing that. I have also done my subscription advertisment. I have changed the font type used to promote the feature artist also to see if it looks better to the previous font that I have used but I will probably change it back. Next I need to continue adding text to the page numbers...

The styling and theme is consistent and appealing- well done. in terms of your drafts, evaluate each one, maybe using audience feedback to guide you into making those final decisions.

Construction of Double Page Spread 1...

I have started work on my double page spread, however I do not think I will continue with this image and text font as I'm not sure on the layout due to the way the picture is. I also do no like the colours in the picture so I have had to make it greyscale which is unusual in magazine double page spreads as they are normally to promote the artist and greyscale does not always send off an exciting vibe to the consumer. I do not really like the fotn type used as it reminds me too much of electro music not necessarily Indie Rock so therefore I am going to change the font. I also need to make sure it matches the contents page and front cover fonts used to promote the same artist so that it all matches.

Construction of Contents Page 4...

I'm happy with the picture that I have picked for the featured artist. I now need to work on the actual text and info that goes into the contents page. I also need to create my subscription advertisment which will go in the rectangle at the bottom left of the contents page...

Construction of Contents Page 3...

I have now started adding text. The Killers is slightly larger than the other bits of info that I will put in soon. Next I want to put in the featured artists photo which I need to select. I am going to try putting it into greyscale or black and white so that it looks interesting and fits the colour scheme of my contents page...

Construction of Contents Page 2...

I am more happy with how the contents page is progressing now that I have the columns and rows inserted. I need to continue putting in the square shaped pugs so that the page numbers stand out when I put them on. I also need to think about advertising my featured artist in the top space...

Construction of Contents Page 1...

This is my first draft of my contents page. Next I will start adding in the colums and rows and maybe a few pugs to make it look more attractive. So far I am unsure as to whether or not I like the cruppled paper used at the bottom for the background. I may just use white or another colour so that it is easier to read the info about the contents of the magazine...

Different Edit of Featured cover artist...

shnfakfkdasnfnsdanfkdsanfknsdafnksdnvknsdnvkdnsvknsdnvknsdkvnksdnvknsdvnksdnvknsdxdgvn
I created 4 covers with slight changes as I was unsure as to which was better. I asked a selection of 16-18yr olds which cover they prefered out of the ones above and most prefered the top right compared to the others. I specifically asked this age group as they are the target audience for my magazine and so I will use the top right as my final design for the cover as it appeals to the larger majority of the age group it is created for. I've stuck with red, white and black as this colour scheme worked best with the colours in the picture. I decided to make the artist herself in greyscale and then highlight her shirt and nails and eye to make the image seem more interesting and stand out to the consumer. I wanted my magazine to stick in with the usual codes and conventions used but tried to add my own touch and style to it to make it seem more original. This I think I have achieved through the edit of the picture. I also only used 5 fonts on the cover to make certain things stand out, these were:
Mister Sirloin BTN Rare
Diamond Heavy SF
Cinema Gothic Shadow
Times New Roman
Super Black SF
I used a few pugs such as rectangles to make texts stand out. I also used a swirl clipart to add detail and interest to the cover and make it more appealing for the consumer.

I like the image and some of your ideas. Well done. Try and look back at some RMAs to help you with the cover lines and layout. Get some audience feedback to help you chose between the designs.

Construction of Front Cover...

Here I have been looking more into fitting text around the picture and the general layout of the front cover for my music magazine. I also looked a little into colour and matching text and colour expecially in the bottom right magazine cover idea. I felt that the bottom two layout ideas were not effective enough because the text did not fit well around it. The magazine logo and name was not obvious enough and does not stand out. The top two fit with the traditional positioning of the logo/magazine name and so therefore fit better with the image that I have chosen. I have placed the artists name at the bottom of the page as this is where it sits best and I can make it larger to make it stand out as the artist on the cover is the featured artist in my magazine. I've stuck with the red, black and white theme as this seems to look better and matches the picture of the artist I have used.
